Getting Registered with the

Federal Government

This blog is about getting registered with the federal government. Although, it is a fairly simple process, but it requires the implementation of a few necessary steps. You can read a detailed version of this blog in this ebook.

Step 1

In the beginning, you have to register your company at www.dnb.com. After you register, you have to wait for a handful of days; it could be anywhere from one day to five days, and you will get what they call a DUNS number. Once you get that DUNS number, then you will go to www.sam.gov. All this is spelled out in the aforementioned document, but I'm bringing this up here because you have to make sure the information that you put up here is exactly similar to the DNB website. Whether it is a capital or lowercase or a suite number, the information should be exactly the same. If you put a hashtag in the suite number versus not putting a hashtag, all of these things could potentially delay your registration process.

Step 2

Number two is when you are in sam.gov and you're setting up your profile, they're going to ask you to create a number called MPIN. This is an important number and without this number, you will not be able to update or modify your profile on sam.gov. You need to save this number because this is an authentication number that is for you to update your profile in sam.gov at any time. It's not like resetting a password. You have to call and you have to go through this process to reset it. When you register for the aforementioned service, they will try to call you and sell you other services. It is at your liberty to get these services but if you're just getting started, it's not really required. Read the detailed process here.
